Working out of the DIO Head Office in Sutton Coldfield, the Senior Building Surveyor post will work within the Building Standards Team that holds the Technical Authority for Building Regulations Compliance on the MOD estate. 

Working to an agreed assurance programme the successful candidate will be required to carry out plan assessments and site inspections on controllable works delivered on the UK and Overseas estate, liaising with key internal and external MOD stakeholders to ensure the MOD Building Regulations Compliance System is adhered to. They will also be required to consider requests for Determinations against the Requirements of the Building Regulations assisting with the production of policy relating to the built estate and assisting in the research into building defects and building pathology that manifest on the estate in addition to providing advice on infrastructure related Equality Act 2010 issues. 

The post holder will be required to work collaboratively with all parts of the Defence Estate Optimisation Programme and across DIO, and to facilitate appropriate TLB interfaces. 

The role is predominantly office based however it is necessary to visit other MOD facilities including construction sites, both in the UK and overseas.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to portfolio, programme and project managers on Building Regulations aspects of the Defence Estate Optimisation Programme (DEOP), its constituent sub-programmes and site disposal led projects. 
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external to DIO and MOD, to reduce delivery risks for programmes. 
  • Ensure that DEO staff and Industry Partners understand MOD’s Building Standards policies and how they apply to DEOP activities. 
  • Ensure that all DEO staff are supported with accurate advice and guidance on the Building Standards issues and legislation that may affect sub-programme delivery. 
  • Facilitate the engagement of relevant technical support from DIO Subject-Matter Experts (SMEs) in Technical Services. 

Candidates are expected to have a degree in Building Surveying or equivalent and have relevant experience of the Building Act, Building Regulations and associated legislation.
