The Building Control team within City of York Council are looking to appoint a suitably qualified/experienced Building Control Surveyor.
With its spectacular architecture, friendly people, and a wealth of cultural and entertainment facilities, York offers a quality of life that's hard to match, let alone beat. But there's much more happening in York, as the city makes a name for itself as one of the most commercially dynamic centres in northern Britain. As new housing construction complements the development of large-scale retail facilities,
York is also a great place for you to develop your career in Building Control. Our service is professional and marketable. If you can combine detailed experience of the operation of the building control function with a clear commitment to the development and delivery of customer-centred services, then you could help us to deliver even higher standards whilst gaining experience of the diverse range of developments and constructional practices which York offers.
We don't carry passengers, so a high level of self-motivation is a must. You will need to be an effective communicator, able to deal with developer negotiations, and equally comfortable working independently or as a part of a team. You should be working towards, or hold, a recognized qualification in Building Control, (IBC, ABE, RICS,) or have worked in Building Control for a significant number of years.
If you share our commitment to achieving ever higher standards of customer service, we offer casual car user allowance, free car parking, occupational pension scheme and great career development opportunities.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
For further information or an informal discussion please contact John Fowler, Building Control & Property Information Manager, email@example.com or on 01904 551380.
